This one and only Fish is Derek William Dick, formerly the frontman of Marillion, a hulking man with the a heart of the dove, great singer and wonderful lyric artist, a true Rock legend. The eminent artist is going to perform on Wednesday (15 October) at 8 pm at Eter. You simply cannot miss an event such as this.
Fish the explorer
Fish has been active outside of Marillion for 26 years now. It must be admitted that with their new singer, Steven Hogarth, the band has released great albums, but it it Fish who contributed to their best LPs, including Script For A Jester's Tear (1983), Fugazi, and Misplaced Childhood. With their new front man, Marillion has gone into a more traditional direction, and produced music that is less sharp, more mellow and pastel-like whereas Fish continues the artistic explorations that he embarked upon with Steve Rothery and Mark Kelly. Their collaboration resulted in his impeccable solo LPs Vigil In A Wilderness Of Mirrors (1990) with songs as wonderful as "A Gentleman's Excuse Me and Cliché, and Internal Exile with the great Credo. Later on, Fish released a number of successful LPs and live performances, including those recorded in Poland, where he has a lot of fans (live in Kraków, DVD in Przemyśl), but he also happened to experiment a lot: he would turn to acoustic music, to rock music and sometimes to his neoprogressive beginnings. But he always kept his class and refused to pander to the mass audience.
Fish on top form
A Feast Of Consequences is his latest LP. Michał Kirmuć from "Teraz Rock" describes it as follows: "Six years have passed since his last album13th Star. In the meantime, he did an acoustic tour and it seems that this has had a huge impact on the sound of his latest LP. Even though A Feast Of Consequences is not a purely acoustic LP, it abounds in sounds such as those from his Acoustic Sessions. (...) These acoustic sounds live in perfect harmony with typical rock music." Fish is thus on top form, which he proved last year in Poland (8 out of 40 performances as part of his last year's The Movable Tour were given in Poland!). He has now set to continue his tour and visit us again, and for the first time in three years he will also arrive in Wroclaw. Judging by his previous gigs in the tour, the set list should be dominated by new pieces, but we should also hear Slàinte Mhath, Vigil..., Big Wedge, Heart Of Lothian and Incubus. His fans will not be disappointed.
