The Blues Brothers are expected to perform at the Bus Depot on ul Grabiszyńska 184, a legendary spot for Wroclaw's "Solidarity" Movement. Their performance will serve as a highlight of the wROCK for Freedom 2014 Festival.
They have always stood out from the crowd. The band was set up in 1976 by two comedians: John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd. A gag created for "The Saturday Night Live", a famous TV show that gathered half of the US in front of their TV sets, developed into an ingenious project that involved professional musicians and was as explosive as a pack of dynamite. When their first LP "Briefcase Full of Blues" was released in November 1978, the audience literally went mad, and the album, which became a double platinum record, topped the prestigious Billboard Top 100. Two years later, The Blues Brothers made their début on a cinema screen as main characters in the film under the same title. Their unique image as two guys dressed in black suits (with black shoes and a pair of matching white socks) and dark shades became so iconic that it went down in the history of music and cinematography.
This unique style combined with the barrage of talented musicians could have come to an end in 1982, when John Belushi died from a drug overdose. However, the band reunited six years later and the original line-up were complemented with new musicians. These days the band perform as the The Original Blues Brother Band, as they still feature two surviving members of the original line-up that recorded "Briefcase Full of Blues": Steve "The Colonel" Cropper on bass and Lou "Blue Lou" Marini on saxophone. Other members have joined the band over the last decades.
It is easy to guess what they are going to perform on 30 August in Wroclaw. That's what they do best. They will perform the soul and blues hits that people love all throughout the world, such as "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love" or "Gimme Some Lovin", but their repertoire is much larger, because since 1978 they have released at least eight LPs excluding selections of their greatest hits.
The concert at the Bus Depot on ul Grabiszyńska 184 is expected to begin at 4.30 pm. Republika, whose famous PL "Nowe Sytuacje" celebrated the thirtieth anniversary last year, is to perform as the support for The Original Blues Brothers.
Tickets in pre-sales will be available until 31 July at 45 PLN (standing places) and 65 PLN (sitting places), until 29 August at 55 PLN and 75 PLN; and on the day of the concert at 60 PLN and 80 PLN, respectively.
