Pesa trams to run regularly in Wroclaw

On Saturday, new Pesa Twist trams started to run regularly on Wroclaw tram routes. You can travel by them both on weekends and weekdays. Now you can meet them on line 3, but soon they will be used also on other lines.

There are already six Pesa Twist trams in Wroclaw at the moment. Depending on the schedule, 3-5 of them are on routes. The first test runs in regular traffic took place on the weekend of the 15th-16th of August, and from the 22nd of August, trams run regularly on Wroclaw trackages. New tram sets were immediately liked by passengers.

‘They are certainly more silent than the old trams. Seats are comfortable and, which is important, they still smell like new,’ says Justyna Staszak, who travelled by a new Pesa from Pilczyce to the city centre.‘What I like most is a lot of room within the new trams,’ adds Mikołaj Głowacki.

Before Pesa trams were set in motion, it had been necessary to adjust the gauge of several tram stop, which was made as a part of current maintenance works performed by the Administration of Roads and City Maintenance.

‘It is not surprising that the introduction of an entirely new vehicle built according to the most recent guidelines required the adaptation of some parts of infrastructure that no longer comply with current standards,’ convinces Agnieszka Korzeniowska, the spokesperson for MPK Wrocław.

At present, passengers can meet the new Pesa on line 3, but it is not the only line that will be served by these tram sets. ‘We want to use them on diametral routes with high intensity of traffic that run through the city centre. Soon this tram will be used also on other lines fulfilling these criteria,’ says the spokesperson.

As you may remember, the Municipal Transport Company (MPK) bought 8 fully low-floor and air-conditioned Pesa trams. They are provided with a series of facilities and technical solutions that were used in them upon the individual order of MPK Wrocław. They include, for instance, the different front side of the vehicle, which was designed to prevent serious consequences of an accident involving a pedestrian so that he could not be pulled under the vehicle. In the evening, passengers can get off more easily thanks to illuminated doorsteps. Inside the vehicle, there are also USB chargers or an aroma system. One tram can contain around 220 persons and is over 30 metres long.
