The end of the season and music composed by Wojciech Kilar are two leitmotifs of June concerts in Wroclaw Philharmonic Hall. The program is attractive and (often) for free. It is worth taking this opportunity, because events like these are rarely in such abundance.
Leo Festival (Tuesday the 3rd of June, 7:50 p.m.)
We would like to remind you of a concert that will be held as a part of Leo Festival exceptionally on Tuesday in the hall of the Central Railway Station in Wroclaw. Entrance is free, and the repertoire will include hit songs about travel and the beautiful Holberg Suite composed by Edvard Grieg and performed by the Wroclaw Chamber Orchestra Leopoldinum under the direction of Ernst Kovacic. A real stunner!
Możdżer vs. Górecki (Friday the 6th of June, 7:00 p.m.; Saturday the 7th of June, 6:00 p.m.)
On Friday and Saturday, Leszek Możdżer will play Concerto for Harpsichord (in piano version) by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki under the baton of Marek Moś, and he will also play his own improvisations. It is a must-listen for fans, although tickets were sold out already two months ago. However, there is no need to despair – a package of entrance passes (15 PLN per each) will be available for sale before each concert. Listening to Górecki’s compositions interpreted by Możdżer is a priceless experience, and everything else (i.e. the entrance pass) will be paid by card.
Wojciech Kilar in memoriam (Thursday the 19th of June, 7:45 p.m.; Tuesday, the 24th of June, 8:30 p.m.)
As many as two concerts will be held in memory of the deceased composer. First, on the 19th of June, the Wroclaw Philharmonic Choir will sing in the famous Missa Pro Pace (Mass for Peace) together with soloists and with the accompaniment of the Lower Silesian Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of the Wroclaw conductor Alan Urbanek (in the Church of the Holy Cross). Later, as a part of the celebration of Wroclaw Days, the new artistic leader of the Wroclaw Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra – Bernard Shwartz will play well-known compositions by Wojciech Kilar, including those particularly beloved by the audience, with his band. They will be presented on the square in front of the cathedral on the 24th of June.
Children play harps (Saturday the 14th of June, 6:00 p.m.)
Children’s Day is already over, but it will be celebrated in the philharmonic hall with an extremely interesting program for 20 harps. This is not a mistake, because pupils of the music school from Warsaw will play themes from famous classical works, such as “Scheherezade” by Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov, or films: “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “The Pink Panther”. Entrance is free.
A busy end of the season for the Baroque Orchestra (Sunday the 22nd of June, 8:30 p.m.; Monday the 23rd of June, 7:30 p.m.)
The Wroclaw Baroque Orchestra is also closing the season with two non-ticketed concerts in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Wroclaw. First, on the 22nd of June, there will be an evening with special attractions – Mozart’s Symphony in G minor and Mass in C minor with an interesting cast (including the soprano Aleksandra Kubas-Kruk and the tenor Nicholas Mulroy). A day later, the oratorio "La decollazione di San Giovanni Battista" by Antonio Maria Bononcini will be performed with soloists under the baton of Andrzej Kosendiak.
