Sona Jobarteh was the curator of this year's edition of the Brave Festival, dedicated to the tradition of griots - musicians, storytellers of West Africa.
At the Polski Theatre, she sang songs dedicated to her ancestors, family and Gambia. The tribute to her grandmother, who encouraged her to play the kora - an instrument reserved to men for generations - was the song 'Mamamuso.' Thanks to her grandmother's persistence, Sona became a musician and the first woman to play the kora.
It was in Wroclaw, at the Brave Festival, that Sona finished shooting her first clip, for the song 'Gambia.' She sang it at the invitation of the president of Gambia on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Gambia's independence. The clip was largely filmed in Sona's homeland; however, a few shots come from the Wroclaw concert at the Brave Festival. These are the shots of a musician playing the drum seruba of the Mandingo people, and the wonderful Wroclaw audience that sang the chorus along with the singer, danced and applauded the Gambian artists.
