The cult 1066 Batman film, directed by Leslie H. Martinson, will be the opening show of the Comic Book Adaptation Review.
The second edition of Moico Enjoy Movies is a continuation of the idea behind the previous edition: a Review of B-Class Films and shows cinema in a distorting mirror. Less known versions of such characters as Batman, the Swamp Thing, Darkman, and Punisher, are an interesting alternatives to Marvel's most recent mega-productions.
Comic book heroes in different versions, appropriate for the times and the authors' abilities. In colourful, slightly twisted films, such as the 1996 "Batman" or in dark, crude 1990's decorations, with Sam Raimi's "Darkman" and "Punisher" (played by Dolph Lungren) in the lead. Nowadays we may find their corny special effects and make-up a little funny. However, the limited technical potential translated into a lot of room for the authors' creativity and the films often surprised the viewers with decent acting. Despite the lapse of time, they certainly had a unique climate, which the current blockbusters clearly lack.
The review will start with the 1966 "Batman" on 5 April, to be followed by "The Swamp Thing" (1982) on 12 April, and the "Punisher" (1989) on 19 April. The final show will be the "Darkman" (1990), to be played on 26 April.
A Moico Enjoy Movies contest
Can you draw? Do you write? Do you make films? Take part in a contest for a short (up to 10 minutes) film that is an adaptation with a comic book about a superhero (adaptation of your own comic book is allowed, too). The film must be recorded with a camera, a telephone, etc. The contest is open to anyone who will post their film on Youtube or Vimeo by 20 April and will send the link to it to the following email address: [email protected]. Any form is allowed: both an animated film and a short feature film. A jury award and an audience award will be given, both equal to 1,500 zlotys.
