Saxony and Lower Silesia together in Leśnica

Data publikacji: Autor:

Christmas stalls from Saxony and Lower Silesia will appear on the terraces of the Zamek Culture Centre in Leśnica this Thursday. The opening ceremony of the Christmas parade is scheduled for Friday. The fair will run until Sunday.

'In Germany, the local fairs organised not only in the centre, but also on the outskirts of cities, are a tradition. Such is the case in Dresden, where each district has its own fair,' says Andreas Grapatin, director of the Saxony Liaison Office in Wroclaw, co-organizer of the fair. 'These smaller markets last a day, sometimes throughout the weekend. They are visited by locals and tourists. We thought a that similar local fair can be arranged precisely in Leśnica.

From 17 to 20 December, Leśnica will smell of gingerbread, mulled wine and Christmas pastries.

'We made sure to exhibit regional producers at the fair. They are very important for the local economy because they create jobs, not only in production but also in transport and trade,' emphasizes Andreas Grapatin.

'We have also prepared a varied artistic and workshop programme, which involves both the Polish and German side. There will be no problems with communicating,' adds Elżbieta Lenczyk, director of the 'Zamek, 'as volunteers who are familiar with the German language will help in translation during the workshops and meetings.

Twenty five exhibitors will present their offer during the fair. Eight of them will come from Saxony. Among them, a bakery Hübner from Horka, operating since 1928. It offers delicious cakes, but especially recommendable are the famous Saxon Strudels in Christmas packages - perfect for gifts. From Radebeul, a town near Dresden, comes also a representative of a famous (operating since 1923) chocolate-walnut cream factory, Vadossi and Nudossi.

Guests from Saxony will also bring an exhibition presenting the panorama of the Saxon Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge), which you can admire on a daily basis in the town of Oederan. Miniature cottages, Saxon castles and palaces made of wood comprise more than two hundred items of the miniature world. A display workshop will present the work of sculptors from the Saxon mountains.

Also to present her workshop is a goldsmith Corinna Grabe from Dresden. From under her hand comes unique and original jewellery made of gold, silver, brass, copper. She decorates her merchandise with pearls, precious stones, ceramics and even lace.

Visitors will be able to taste regional specialties such as, among others, Lower Silesia meads, smoked carp from the Barycz Valley, and the 'knuppelteig' - German cake baked on a stick, or Saxon bratwursts. The fair will be visited also by craftsmen, who will offer: Christmas cushions, decorative ceramics, Christmas decorations, baby clothes, handmade toys or wooden chopping boards in unusual shapes.

Lower Silesia will be represented, among others, by honey from two apiaries: Złota Patoka and Spiżarnia Miodowa. There will also be traditional pork cold cuts, smoked in alder smoke, rustic sourdough bread, home-made lard or the Borderland kvass beverage. There will also be apple products, butter, mustard, natural vinegars and syrups, as well as cider of Trzebnica.

You will have the opportunity to try sweet treats - waffles with whipped cream, pancakes with chocolate and cotton candy. The offer also includes cheesecakes and poppy strudels, gingerbread coffee, espresso with hazelnut ice cream, tea with rowan jam and winter hot lemonade. During the fair you can also request holiday dishes prepared by Wroclaw companies.

Parade, concerts and workshops

The fair is also an opportunity to have fun together. On Friday starts the festive parade, hosted by the Griffin Guard, who are a group of juggling banners along the lines of the Italian fraternities.

Younger guests can enjoy workshops in the Christmas Playroom, carol sing-along, reading of fairy tales, a concert by a Dresden choir, a theatre performance and a meeting with Santa Claus.

On Saturday scheduled is a concert of Christmas carols performed by the Dresden choir 'Canta d'elysio' and a performance 'Pastorałki.' On Sunday, Christmas workshops will take place, during which you will have the opportunity to prepare Christmas decorations and gifts for the loved ones.

The fair is a joint initiative of the Leśnica Castle and the Liaison Office of the Free State of Saxony.
