"As many as 15,000 participants signed up for the PKO Wroclaw Night Marathon this year, but for organizational reasons, we still have to limit the amount of runners to 10,000", explains Wojciech Gęstwa, director of the Wroclaw Marathon.
This year's route of the half marathon, 21,097.5 m, is AIMS- and PZLS-certified. Both start and finish are at the Olympic Stadium. The route goes through: al. Różyckiego - Szczytnicki Bridge - pl. Grunwaldzki and the bridge - pl. Powstańców Warszawy - ul. Pułaskiego - ul. Małachowskiego - ul. Ślężna - ul. Wiśniowa - ul. Powstańców Śląskich - ul. Świdnicka - ul. Piłsudskiego - ul. Podwale - ul. Ruska - ul. Grodzka - Piaskowy Bridge - Młyński Bridge - ul. Sienkiewicza - Pokoju Bridge - ul. Purkyniego - ul. Frycza-Modrzewskiego - ul. Kraińskiego - ul. św. Katarzyny - ul. Oławska - pl. Powstańców Warszawy - Grunwaldzki Bridge - Wybrzeże Wyspiańskiego - ul. Norwida - ul. Skłodowskiej-Curie - pl. Grunwaldzki - Szczytnicki Bridge - al. Różyckiego, and back to the Olympic Stadium.
This year's special attraction is a medal for all who complete the race. "Last year, the two-piece medal from the half-marathon and the marathon enjoyed huge popularity. This year, at the half marathon the runners will receive the first of four parts of the medal, which will represent the NFM", explains Wojciech Gęstwa. "This way we want to emphasize that this year Wroclaw is the European Capital of Culture. In autumn, during the marathon, we will be handing the second part - with a miniature Centennial Hall, and next year - the year of The World Games in Wroclaw - two more miniatures. On earning the entire set, they will also receive a special platter shaped in the outline of Wroclaw, for displaying all four medals.
On the occasion of the European Capital of Culture Wroclaw 2016, on the route of the 4. PKO Wroclaw Night Half Marathon athletes will be accompanied, among others, by live classical music, or a multimedia project P.I.W.O on the east wing of the Provincial Office. For those, who in addition to sports emotions, would also like to know the history, architecture and trivia of Wroclaw, a special "tourist group" was prepared, with a guide. "In this group, what is important are not the times or breaking the record, but getting to know Wroclaw and its assets in the night hours", encourages Gęstwa.
