Hateful and racist symbols, vulgar and offensive slogans 'away with these, with those' - this is what many Wroclaw walls look like. Usually we pass them indifferently; however, they are a testimony to the fact that a lot of people around us spread hatred and harmful views. 'We say a firm NO to racism and such attitude. With our peaceful and very colourful campaign, we want to show that we are not OK with this, that we do not agree to this,' say Julia Biernacka and Kuba Majewski, the people behind the 'Paint Over Hatred' campaign.
On Friday, October 9, at 3 pm young people with colourful sprays and funny templates will appear in Przedmieście Oławskie. 'Ul. Wyszynskiego and ul. Żeromskiego are the worst cases. This is where the most of these slogans and symbols are,' says Kuba. 'We welcome all residents of Wroclaw to join the action, all who do not agree to racism, hatred and exclusion of people who are different for some reason. We will have templates and sprays with us and we will try to paint over and cover the most racist symbols,' the organisers add.
What will the templates look like? 'We decided to cover hate with something friendly and welcoming. And so, there will be unicorns and butterflies,' adds Julia. The action 'Paint Over Hatred' is organized for the first time. However, the organizers are hoping it will become a permanent one among other Wroclaw campaigns.
