'Birds' have been standing in ul. Świdnicka since 2009, but the artist thought of a different location for them. She wanted them closer to the Oder. 'Abakanowicz has offered the city to increase the number of sculptures by another three birds, provided that they will be placed by the river,' says Katarzyna Sarka from the Press Office of the Municipal Office of Wroclaw. The city agreed to the artist's proposal; the new place is planned as part of the reconstruction of the Dunikowski Bolevard. 'Birds,'with the additional three sculptures, will appear on the boulevard in the coming weeks.
Gondola Bay is located near the National Museum, which presents the work of Abakanowicz, and behind the building, also on the Oder, presented are the artist's eleven sculptures of the 'Knights of King Arthur' cycle. It's the sculptor's deposit for the museum. Fans of Magdalena Abakanowicz's work will therefore have the opportunity to see her works in yet another place. Soon, her famous Abakans from the National Museum will be moved to the Four Domes Pavilion, where the Museum of Contemporary Art is being created.
