Wroclaw wins Eco-Miasto award in Urban Greenery category

Wroclaw has been distinguished again in the Eco-Miasto competition. Within the 7 th edition of the project, the capital of Lower Silesia won in the Urban Greenery category in cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants. The jury of the competition appreciated particularly the green area management and maintenance system and the implementation of a few projects, including GrowGreen, for which a special award was also granted.

Wroclaw is the best for the third time and with a special award

‘We are happy to have received another award of this kind. In the age of climate changes, it is a serious challenge to protect the greenery that we already have and to develop it so that it would serve as a blue-green infrastructure of the city. This year, our efforts to make Wroclaw greener and more ecological have been recognised,’ said Katarzyna Szymczak-Pomianowska – Head of the Sustainability Department of the Wroclaw City Office, who received the statuette on behalf of Mayor Jacek Sutryk.

‘We carry out many projects, such as Grey into Green, Catch the Rain, I Like Rain or Grow Green, under which 6 pocket parks were opened in Ołbin at the end of 2019, and we have greened Daszyńskiego street. We are ready to pass on our experiences from this project to other cities,’ added Katarzyna Szymczak-Pomianowska.
