The renovation of Powstańców Śląskich Street started on the night of Friday to Saturday (11th/12th July).
Press Service of the Wroclaw City Office: ‘Traffic in the area of the investment is slightly slower, but there is no major congestion. This is thanks to the traffic organisation that has been put in place.
Even if the works will make life a little more difficult for drivers (cars and buses currently travel in one lane), they are necessary: one of Wroclaw's busiest streets will have a new surface: stone paving blocks will be replaced by asphalt concrete, as this was decided after months of negotiations between city officials and the Lower Silesian monument conservator. As a result, it will be quieter.
Heavy equipment is in operation on the street and some of the paving has already been removed.
Three stages in six months
The investment is divided into three phases, but they will be carried out at the same time:
- Swobodna – Radosna Street (550 m);
- Wielka – Powstańców Śląskich Square (220 m);
- Powstańców Śląskich Square – Hallera Street (365 m).
The scope of work of the Roads and City Maintenance Authority in Wroclaw also includes:
- laying of new road surface,
- adjustment of kerbs,
- renovation of pavements and cycle paths,
- upgrading of stormwater drains and manholes.
If there are no surprises during the works and the weather is favourable, the renovation should be completed in January 2026.
As Director of the Roads and City Maintenance Authority in Wroclaw Tomasz Staruchowicz reported, the contractor will operate on three sections simultaneously and change the traffic organisation depending on where the work is carried out.
What about the paving blocks?
The granite paving blocks removed from Powstańców Śląskich Street will be cleaned and sorted and then deposited in the stone materials warehouse to be reused for other municipal investments.
