The issue was not simple: water leaked from the connector connecting the 700 mm diameter main to the tee, and all of this 5 metres under the tracks in front of the Grunwaldzki Bridge.
In order to remove the failure, a huge hole had to be dug under the tracks with the help of heavy equipment. Anyway, see for yourself.
Backfilling of the trench has begun
‘On Sunday, we dug to get to the point of the accident. We removed the cause of the leak yesterday, and throughout the night from Monday to Tuesday the main operated under pressure – as correctly as possible. We started backfilling the trench this morning,’ reports MPWiK.
MPWiK had expected the failure to be removed at least within seven to nine days, and it turned out that three were enough.
Road to be restored from Wednesday
On Wednesday 16th July, the reconstruction of the road and track substructure will begin – the most time-consuming part of all the works, which may take three weeks. This is because each successive layer of concrete takes several days to set well. The smoothness of work progress is also influenced by the weather.
As you may remember, traffic has changed for the duration of the works:
- Tram lines 0, 4, 12, 13 and 16 have been diverted via the Pokoju Bridge.
- Passage for cars and buses around the Grunwaldzki Bridge is possible on one outside lane in each direction.
