Such coronavirus tests are performed by an increasing number of facilities (some public institutions or private laboratories). Whenever you want to do such a test, you have to make an appointment by calling designated numbers or filling in the application form.
How to prepare for a test:
- A smear should be collected in the morning, after rinsing the mouth with cooked water or upon lapse of around 3 hours from the last meal.
- Before a smear is collected, do not wash teeth and do not use mouth rinsing liquids, chewable tablets for sore throat and chewing gums.
- A smear should be collected upon lapse of minimum 2 hours from the application of antimicrobial nose drops, ointments or sprays.
- Before a smear is collected, do not rinse or blow your nose.
- Take mobile dental plates out of your mouth before a test.
Coronavirus tests in Wroclaw
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the rules of performing a coronavirus test have changed. Now also a primary healthcare doctor will be entitled to issue a test order.
Refundable coronavirus tests are performed in specific cases:
- for persons being hospitalised or undergoing consultation at isolation wards (according to the doctor’s recommendations),
- for persons going to a sanatorium (not earlier than 6 days before the start date of the treatment),
- for persons who received an electronic test order because of a suspected coronavirus infection,
- for patients referred to a test by a primary healthcare doctor. If, as a result of a remote advice or home visit, a primary healthcare doctor recognises symptoms characteristic of COVID-19, he/she may issue a test order referral.
Currently, two types of coronavirus tests are performed.
The most effective and reliable tests are genetic (molecular) tests. They are officially recommended by the World Health Organisation. Results of a genetic test are known after a few or several hours. The RT-PCR test is a standard method of checking the presence of SARS-CoV-2; it is performed for all persons in whom an infection with coronavirus is suspected. However, this type of test is not always fully effective – if the result is positive, the patient should undergo a genetic test.
