PWCVs on the streets of Wroclaw

Until recently, old irons, radio sets, used-up batteries or paint remains had to be brought to the Municipal Waste Selective Collection Point; now you can dispose of them on your own housing estate. From the next year on, such wastes will be collected by Problematic Waste Collection Vehicles (PWCV).

The Wroclaw company Ekosystem responsible for waste management in 2021 has introduced a new service that will allow inhabitants to dispose of problematic wastes, such as old kettles, radio sets, paint remains, glues, oils, batteries, toners or chargers, in a simple way. All they have to do is bring them to a PWCV, which will arrive in each housing estate to collect them twice a month.

‘In this way, we want to make things easier for Wroclaw people so that they would not have to bring their problematic wastes to Michalczyka or Janowska street, where our municipal waste selective collection points are located,’ says Bartosz Małysa – President of the Management Board of Ekosystem Sp. z o.o. ‘We will collect them from inhabitants free of charge. This will help them to get rid of old unnecessary items lying in houses or cellars that they do not know what to do with, such as small household or audio-video devices or remains of chemicals. They often land in municipal or large-size waste containers, which are not the right places for them.’

Psie Pole and Fabryczna for a start

PWCVs went out onto Wroclaw streets on 2nd January 2021. At first, they could be used by inhabitants of Psie Pole and Fabryczna. Shortly afterwards, they will appear also on streets of Old Town, Śródmieście and Krzyki. PWCVs will stop on every housing estate for two hours twice a month – usually between 2:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., depending on the location. Everything will take place according to the schedule that will be available on the website of Ekosystem.

PWCVs will collect:

  • small household and audio-video devices
  • used-up batteries
  • chemicals of identified origin, e.g., paints, glues, oils
  • expired medicines
  • pesticides
  • light bulbs and fluorescent lamps
  • paints
  • printer toners
  • mercury thermometers
  • expired medicines.
