Play with Glass: European Festival of Glass

Data publikacji: Autor:

The European Festival of Glass 'Play with Glass' kicks off for the fourth time already. The annual exhibition of glass by artists from Poland and all over the world will be connected to a cycle of accompanying events.

This year's edition of the European Festival of Glass 'Play with Glass' is primarily the main exhibition 'LOVE,' which traditionally can be seen in the Session Hall of the Main Railway Station in Wroclaw. The exhibition will include 34 works made by 17 invited artists from 13 European countries. The festival runs from 12 to 18 October.

The festival will also include accompanying exhibitions, organized in Wroclaw galleries. BWA Wroclaw's Gallery SiC! will house an exhibition of Jana Hojstričova and Palo Macho from Slovakia. The exhibition 'Debut,' in the Gallery Arttrakt will feature works by Michal Lacko, a student of the Fine Arts College in Bratislava recommended to participate in 'Debut' by Palo Macho. The galleries BB, Tyc Art Glass, Versus and the Applied Arts Centre - the Innovation Centre and E. Geppert Academy of Fine Arts will house exhibitions of works by Ludwik Kiczura, Dąbrówka Ida Huk, Witold Sliwinski and Agnieszka Bar.

As part of the festival, also organised is an open international seminar on European art pf glass. It will be held in the conference room of the Applied Arts Centre - the Innovation Centre of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw. Numerous projects will also be carried out, such as: 'Glass Shop Window', glass workshops, a walk around Wroclaw following the 'trail of glass architecture.'

The festival programme will be opened and closed by a tour of the Wroclaw Old Town Glass Trail, developed during the second edition of the festival as part of the project 'Glass in the urban space of Wroclaw.' Those willing to participate in this unusual walk will start out with the guide from the glass fountain 'Spring,' designed by Alojzy Gryta and will see sixteen works of glass architecture in Wroclaw, chosen by the project authors from tens of glass works located in the public space of the city: in churches, squares and streets.

As part of the European Festival of Glass, there will also be workshops, for many years successfully held by Anna Gałuszka. The project 'Glass Shop Window' is a project that is sure to enjoy the festival's participants' and guests' interest. Carried out for the fourth time, it spurred students of the Institute of Glass of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw to joint action. By entering with their projects into the living space of the city, they can directly confront the recipients of their artistic proposals. Located on a frequented street, a showcase of a shop or café creates a lot more opportunities for the public presentation of work than a gallery or museum. This year, as many as thirteen Wroclaw shop windows will feature glass decorations, e.g. Ubieralnia, Salon Royal-Bra, Stara Mydlarnia, Antykwariat Naukowy.

The main exhibition, 'LOVE,' will also be on display in the City Gallery in Lodz, the Museum of the Karkonosze in Jelenia Gora, and the City Gallery in Legnica.

Organizer: Fly Art Foundation and Gallery BB
