Oscars 2023. What a success! Jerzy Skolimowski’s EO with a chance for an Oscar

On Wednesday 21st December, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced a shortlist of films that can receive nominations for the world’s most important film awards known as ‘Oscars’. One of the works that can compete for an Academy Award in the Best International Feature Film category is the Polish film EO (original title: IO) by Jerzy Skolimowski.

The shortlist includes only 15 titles selected from among films submitted from 92 countries. One of the lucky films is Jerzy Skolimowski’s EO – its production was co-financed by Wroclaw.

Oscars 2023. EO in good company

EO will compete for a nomination with films from Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Cambodia, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Mexico, Pakistan or Sweden.

A shortlist of films is announced one month before the announcement of Oscar nominations, which will take place on 24th January 2023. The Oscar awarding ceremony will take place for the 95th time in Hollywood on 13th March 2023.

  • South Korea, Decision to Leave
  • Sweden, Cairo Conspiracy

Oscars 2023. What is EO about?

EO tells the story of a journey of a donkey from a Polish circus to Italy. In the course of its wandering, it gets into the hands of various people: a circus artist, football yobs, a LGV driver, or a priest.

Skolimowski’s film has already received a couple of awards, including the European Film Award for Music for Paweł Mykietyn, the European University Film Award for Jerzy Skolimowski or the Jury Prize during the 75th Cannes Film Festival.
