60 officers are watching over the safety of those travelling by train to Wroclaw Main Station. After the renovation of the building of the station, a three-storey headquarters of the police station was established.
"It is a great convenience for the officers, as well as the travellers. Because the interventions may be reported directly at the station," said Senior Aspirant Paweł Petrykowski from the Province Police Headquarters (Komenda Wojewódzka Policji) in Wroclaw during the grand opening of the new railway police station.
The police officers intervene in the vicinity of the train station about 3,000 times a year. Most often in cases of theft of luggage, wallets and the station's infrastructure. At the railway police station there is a centre with the duty officer. There are also administration rooms. There are no wards for the detainees.
"Such people will be transferred to the detention centre at Podwale," says Paweł Petrykowski.
270 surveillance cameras were installed at the station during the renovation. Before there were 49 of them.
"The old cameras were analogue. Now we have digital ones, which record high-quality image. They are so precise that we can give a detailed description of a person suspected of a crime, for example his/her brand of clothes," explains Bartłomiej Sarna, the press spokesman for Polish State Railways (PKP S.A.) in Wroclaw.
