From 15th February your tax office will settle your PIT return

Data publikacji: Autor:

On 15th February, a new Twój e-PIT (Your e-PIT) service was launched on the Tax Portal podatki.gov.pl. The tax office will prepare an annual tax return on the basis of data in its possession. Each taxpayer may choose whether they want to use the e-PIT return prepared by the tax administration or to fill in their tax return by themselves.

Between 15th February and 30th April, everyone will be allowed to access their own PIT return on the Tax Portal, to update their personal account number and to submit the return online. If the taxpayer decides to file their PIT return in electronic form, they will have their money reimbursed within 45 days.

“The introduction of the new solution means that nearly 25 per cent of taxpayers settling their PIT return individually without using any discounts and deductions will not have to do anything to settle their PIT return for the previous year. Another 25 per cent of taxpayers (persons settling their PIT return along with their spouse without using any discounts and deductions) can complete their annual tax settlement by means of two clicks,” we can read on the website of the Ministry of Finance.

Since 1st January 2019, the National Tax Administration has performed PIT return settlement service. The tax office will prepare the 2018 PIT return for each taxpayer without the need to file any application. PIT-37 and PIT-38 returns will be settled in this way with regard to income for the year 2018; other returns, including PIT-36, PIT-36L and PIT-38, will be settled with regard to income for the year 2019.

Filing a PIT return no longer required – the tax office will do it for everyone

The annual settlement of PIT will apply to taxpayers settling their return individually, with their spouse or in the manner specified for single parents.

The PIT return that the tax office will prepare for us can be:

  • verified and accepted
  • if nothing is done, the prepared tax return will be automatically accepted in the case of PIT-37 or PIT-38
  • modified
  • rejected and the taxpayer can prepare his own return – the deadline for filing the annual tax return is 30th April

The tax office will fill in tax returns for personal income taxpayers on the basis of information from them and data entered by the taxpayer in the tax return for the last year, e.g., a discount for children, or the KRS number of the public benefit organisation to which they submitted 1% of their tax.
