Opening of the European Culture Capital is coming up very soon. For Wrocław, this will be a year of visits of tourists from all over the world. It is also a challenge for the MPK.
"Approx 20 percent of our crew declares knowledge of foreign languages. Since November, those who know English, are directed to work on the airport line", says Agnieszka Korzeniowska.
But that's not all. In the autumn, the company helped complete the project, which will help broaden the knowledge of our city among foreigners.
The initiator of the project is a Brit, Owen Williams, who came to our city in 2012 and decided to stay here indefinitely. Nowadays, he teaches English in Wrocław, and spends his free time with his Polish wife and a newly born daughter.
"When Mr. Williams approached us, we thought it was a great idea and it needed support. We contacted the students of the University of Wrocław, who helped with the realisation and montage of the film, and this is how the series of short YouTube films was created", says Korzeniowska.
The films are a practical guide. Owen shows the charms of our city, but mainly explains how to get around by public transport, instructs how to buy a ticket from a vending machine, or how to use the application iMPK.
"Wrocław is open and well prepared for tourists, but few of them actually know that there is such a city. I want to change it, hence the idea of making films in English and putting them on the popular website", explains Owen.
Moreover, as Owen says, every self-respecting Briton will want to prepare before coming to our city, to know how to find their feet in Wrocław. It is in the mentality of his countrymen that they prefer to do some research sooner than to look for an information desk later, on the spot. They just like to know what's what. Hence, Owen's idea to start from practical tips on getting around our city.
After a series of films about transport, Owen wants to continue the project and show in more detail the places related to the European Culture Capital. He hopes that his films will appeal to internet users and there will be more institutions open for cooperation.
