70 academic teams from around the world took part in the aerospace competition that ended in Fort Worth, Texas, on Sunday. SAE Aero Design East is organised by the Society of Automotive Engineers and Lockheed Martin – a big player on the aviation market.
Students of the Wroclaw University of Technology won most podium places in individual categories.
In the advanced class (Lower Silesian model – wing span: 3.5 m, weight: 3.5 kg, lifting capacity: over 12 kg), they ranked second in the technical presentation and third in the throwing accuracy competition. In the final advanced class ranking, Poles took the 2nd place.
In the micro class, the Wroclaw team used the Spirit of Kościuszko model with a wing span of 1.6 m, a weight of 500 g and a lifting capacity of over 1.6 kg. In this part of the competition, they ranked second in the ‘Heaviest lifted load’ category and third in the technical presentation.
Constructors from the Jet Stream team have participated in this prestigious U.S. competition for 8 years and have usually brought awards for their designs and achievements of presented models. This year’s result is the biggest success of the Wroclaw team.
