  3. Wroclaw Restaurant Week

Polish cities join New York, London and Toronto in the Restaurant Week. From 11 to 17 May, the flagship restaurants in Poznań, Warszawa, Trójmiasto, Kraków and Wroclaw will be serving their top notch specialties as part of the festival. A three-course menu costs 39 PLN.

Say what you like, but Polish people hardly ever go to restaurants which serve original and often expensive cuisine. We may like different flavours and their original combinations, too, or modern décor at the new and swanky places around town, but in the end it is sheer economy that makes us settle for a home-made chop or something more affordable from a franchise restaurant. However, the unwavering popularity of cooking talent shows seems to suggest that we aspire to the "higher culinary level", at least once in a blue moon we do, that is.

The upcoming Wroclaw Restaurant Week from 11 to 17 May is just what you need to celebrate life and satisfy our culinary aspirations. The following restaurants have joined these flavour and fragrance festivities:

  • di cafe deli (Powstańców Śląskich 95)
  • Szajnochy 11 (same address)
  • Monopol (Modrzejewskiej 2)
  • Czarymary (Konstytucji 3 Maja)
  • La Fée Verte (Kotlarska 24/1A)
  • OK WineBar (Szewska 59)
  • Vertigo Jazz Club & Restaurant (Oławska 13)
  • Trattoria Pasta & Vino (Racławicka 13)
  • PURO Kitchen (Włodkowica 6)

What specialities are they going to serve? Czarymary, for example, offers home-smoked salmon or asparagus and quill eggs for starters, duck with roast yellow and red beets or potato purée and roasted pumpkin seeds as main, and dark or white chocolate with vanilla for dessert. La Fée Verte offers special menus for both carnivores and vegetarians. The latter may enjoy crème de tomates et baguette à l ail, that is, tomato and basil cream served with baguette and garlic butter, for starters; galette de sarrazin aubergine et fromage de chèvre, which is buckwheat gluten-free French pancakes with aubergine, goat cheese and sun-dried tomatoes, as main; and crème brûlée, that is, traditional vanilla-flavoured custard cream with crunchy caramel on top, for dessert. Sounds tasty? Immensely! And each three-course meal costs only 39 PLN.

The restaurants offer 90 minutes to serve their Resaurant Week guests, which is just enough to have a bite to eat and palate the specialities of the house.

The Wroclaw Restaurant Week offers a unique three-course experience to those who like to eat out and enjoy a restaurant atmosphere. The chefs at the most carefully selected restaurants are going to compose special menus (starter, main course, dessert) at an affordable price of just 39 PLN. The organisers of the event are sure that the festival is going to present Wroclaw's most promising restaurants and to "celebrate the development of the Polish culinary scene, which is now able to meet global standards". The Wroclaw Restaurant Week may serve as an opportunity to explore the city's most promising restaurants, which in turn will be able to tell their stories, since all the venues taking part in the festival are required to prepare a menu that both showcases their skills and is affordable. It is worth joining the festival, as we rarely happen to order a three-course menu in one go.

Our readers may expect a number of surprises to be up for grabs any moment now.

The pilot November edition of the WARSAW RESTAURANT WEEK proved to be a huge success both to those who organised the event and the restaurateurs themselves, and the latter declared they would take part in the subsequent editions of the festival. The organisers decided to repeat this success story in other Polish cities, which is why apart from Wroclaw and Warsaw similar events will be held in Kraków, Poznań and Trójmiasto.

You can start planning your dining adventure now. You may register for the event at www.restaurantweek.pl to book your dinner 24 hours before the official sale begins (the expected date: 24 April 2015) and choose the hottest table in the entire restaurant.
