After several months of renovations, the city centre boulevards on the Odra River: the Xawerego Dunikowskiego Boulevard and Marii i Lecha Kaczyńskich Boulevard are now ready. They are sure to become popular places to walks, meetings, and rest.
(click here to see a photo gallery) The romenade near the Market Hall and the main building of the Academy of Fine Arts has brightened up. In place of the overgrown, inaccessible shoreline, a stone amphitheatre-like descent to the river appeared. This will surely make the enthusiasts of sail vessels thrilled, because it will be easier for them to get on a ship. The stairs in front of the Włostowica Boulevard is the perfect place to sit and enjoy the lazy Oder River and the skyline of Ostrów Tumski. Besides, the island is clearly visible on the entire length of the boulevard. The space between the Oder and the building of the National Museum has also changed. Next to the benches stand outdoor chairs in versions for couples and singles, and near the footbridge at the Gondola Gulf appeared sculptures by Magdalena Abakanowicz. Perhaps "Ptaki" ("Birds") will become a new lovers landmark on the map of Wroclaw. What is new, is the passage under Most Pokoju to Kaczyński Boulevard (at the rear of the Voivodship Office). Previously unpopular, with hard access, the place also gained a new look. Apart from a stop for ships, huge, open-air seats and benches were added. In a stretch of over a kilometre, many new trees were planted, and the mound in front of the Academy of Fine Arts was re-shaped. Now, it will be worth taking a walk in the area on a warm day. When the vegetation is lush, the boulevards on the Odra will become permanent walking routes between Grunwaldzki Bridge and the Old Town. Parks are nice, too On weekends, the streets around Szczytnicki Park become stuffed with cars. This is a sign that the largest urban park in Wroclaw attracts visitors from the most distant neighbourhoods. ">
The hundred-hectare area is crossed by ul. Mickiewicza. The part by the Centennial Hall attracts those with families and larger children, because there is more to watch here: a wooden church, the Centennial Hall, the Pergola, the Spire, the Japanese Garden (open only from 1 April). In the northern part, closer to ul. Różyckiego, there are more dog owners, families with children in prams. The advantage is the vast space, playgrounds for children, long avenues, and a small number of cyclists.
More attractions were also introduced in Park Zachodni, with a boulder park for children. In southern part of Wroclaw, a popular walking destination is the horse racing track, Partynice.
And those who have already seen Wroclaw parks far and wide, may choose to Pawłowice on the city outskirts, near Psie Pole. Here, a seven-hectare historic park surrounds a nineteenth-century palace Kornów, today the property of the University of Life Sciences.
Urban gardens
Since last week, you can take a walk in the Botanical Garden of the University of Wroclaw, adjacent to Ostrów Tumski. Not all plants have awakened after the winter yet, but this place has a lot of charm at any time of the year.
