Tauromaquia exhibition. Tickets at a special price

In August, the price discount was introduced for weekends, and in September, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays will be cheaper (from 10 a.m. till 3 p.m.). To be eligible for the 50% discount, you have to use the purchased ticket on the same day. Visitors can watch as many as 340 works by masters such as Francisco Goya, Pablo Picasso and Salvadore Dalí.

"The opportunity to see such works in Wroclaw is unprecedented thing,” stresses Jarosław Broda, Director of the Culture Department of the City Council of Wroclaw. “Of course, I wish that the announced works had been brought here at an earlier date and that there had been better communication between the City Gallery and the media in that matter. But we cannot underestimate the value of the entire exhibition, which really represents top-world class," he emphasises, adding that the exhibition has already been watched by around 15,000 Wroclaw inhabitants and tourists. “That is a really good result,” says Jarosław Broda.

Masters’ works in the Museum of Architecture

The exhibition "Picasso Dalí Goya. Tauromaquia - Bullfighting" presents 340 works by outstanding artists, including three great Spanish masters. Visitors can see for themselves how the metaphorical struggle between good and evil is perceived by the outstanding artists and how many clues and symbols appear in the artistic interpretation of tauromaquia proposed by them. Organised by the City Gallery in Wroclaw, the exhibition is presented in the impressive space of the Museum of Architecture in Wroclaw, which offers adequate conditions for putting the curator’s conception into practice.

Lectures and meetings devoted to Tauromaquia

We encourage you to take part in a series of events for adults and children that have been planned around the exhibition. From the 3rd of September, meetings devoted to a selected work of art or a cycle of such works in connection with the Tauromaquia exhibition will take place every two weeks. They will be conducted by a historian of art, who will not only talk about the work being presented, but will also encourage a discussion about it. The first discussion will be held on Wednesday the 3rd of September (its subject will be "Bull", a cycle by Pablo Picasso – see also episode of our video guide concerning this series). Dates and subjects of further mini lectures will be available on the website of the exhibition: www.tauromachia.pl

For those who are interested in the subject of corrida in art, presence at the lecture on the 23rd of September at 6 p.m. in the session room of the Main Railway Station in Wroclaw will be an ideal solution. In her speech entitled "Tauromachia – the art of corrida", Katarzyna Sumisławska will present the history of bullfighting over the last centuries and all rituals connected with it – from the method of selection of bulls, the scenario of fights and the meaning of toreadors' clothes to the depiction of the symbolic role of bullfighting.

Artists on the screen

Fans of films with a corrida motif can attend a film show in the Lower Silesian Film Centre (DCF). In September, films related thematically to Tauromaquia will be displayed there on the big screen, including the excellent Swedish comedy "The Adventures of Picasso" from 1978, based on facts from the artist’s biography (16th of September, 5 p.m.) or the Spanish "Matador" from 1986, directed by Pedro Almodóvar (23rd of September, 5 p.m.). Tickets cost 10 PLN and will be on sale in the cash desk of DCF.

About bulls and corrida with children

Events addressed to children under the Tauromaquia project are family workshops, for which registrations can be made from the 1st of September (requests should be submitted by e-mail: [email protected] or by phone: 71 343-36-75). The first meeting will take place on the 20th and the 21st of September (start at 11 a.m.) and its leading theme will be: “Draw Ferdinand the Bull”. Listening to a tale of this bull, children will prepare illustrations for the text using the decal method. The entrance costs 5 PLN per child, and the parent will pay the price of a ticket for the exhibition.

On Tuesday the 2nd of September, a museum lesson project will also be started for primary school, middle school and secondary school students. During these classes, they will learn not only about particular works of art and their history, but also the details of the technique used for making them. Registrations can be made in the Education Department of the Museum of Architecture in Wroclaw (tel. 603 700 781 – available from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., or by e-mail to: [email protected])

The exhibition "Picasso Dalí Goya. Tauromaquia - Bullfighting" will last till the 16th of November and can be visited in the Museum of Architecture every day from 10 a.m. till 8 p.m. (last entrance at 7:15 p.m.).
