- Location and Hydrological Situation:We are at Małgorzata Weir, where the Oława River flows into the Oder. Oława was at risk of backflow from the Oder, which could have posed a serious threat to Wrocław. Fortunately, manually closing the sluice gates and using three large pumps to drain the water helped prevent any issues. As a result, the water level in the Oława is dropping, and the situation is under control.
- Pump Operations and Infrastructure:Małgorzata Weir is equipped with three massive pumps that can move a total of 10 m³ of water per second. This is a significant capacity, hard to replace with mobile pumps. The pumps are operating efficiently and continue to do their job. In case of a failure, firefighters brought in mobile pumps, but these weren't needed as our equipment did a great job.
- Support and Cooperation:I would like to thank everyone involved in the efforts, including staff from Municipal Greener Administrationy, technical services, and the Territorial Defence Forces. I also thank the residents who, just in case, built sandbag levees, even though they ultimately weren’t necessary. This demonstrates their vigilance and concern for safety, especially given that Wrocław's outskirts were severely affected by the 1997 flood.
- Status of Protections and Future Actions:The water in the Oława has dropped enough to reopen the sluices, allowing water to naturally flow into the Oder. The situation is stable, and we will continue to monitor for any damage and plan further improvements for the future. We are ready to take further action if needed.
- Call for support:I appeal to anyone with trucks or large vehicles to help transport sandbags. We need to deliver them to regions in the north and west, including areas around Głogów and the Lubuskie province, where the flood peak is approaching. I encourage solidarity and support for those still at risk of flooding.
