The first partly free parliamentary election in post-war Poland was a huge breakthrough in the history of the country. If you want to recollect or learn about this event and Wroclaw’s preparations for it, you can watch archival photos and listen to archival radio broadcasts from 1989.
Until the 16th of June, 30 planes will be available on the square near St. Mary Magdalene Church in Wroclaw to remind Wroclaw inhabitants of this extremely important milestone on the road to Poland’s freedom. They contain valuable and varied collections: archival photographs made available by the Independent Photographic Agency “Dementi” and photographers: Marek Koch, Mieczysław Michalak and Zbigniew Nowak, as well as reproductions of election posters. The exhibition is supplemented by archival radio programmes that were broadcast in Radio Wroclaw in 1989.
Exactly on the 25th anniversary of the election, i.e. on the 4th of June at 12:00 p.m., all visitors of the exhibition will receive “Na drodze do niepodległości. Wrocław 1981-1989” (On The Road to Independence. Wroclaw 1981-1989) – an album by Leszek Ziątkowski. An additional reminder of the events that took place 25 years ago will be “Urns of Freedom” prepared by the RAZEM 89 Initiative in co-operation with the Office of the President of the Republic of Poland.
The primary aim of the “Road To Freedom” exhibition is to show that a huge number of persons contributed to this momentous event in the history of Poland.
