New tramway route via Popowice under construction. Changes at the Milenijny bridge from 8th May

Saturday 8th May is the start date of reconstruction works at the intersection of Milenijna and Popowicka streets, where a new tramway route via Popowice will be opened next year. Particularly drivers should be prepared for big changes. Check where detours will run. Works will last half a year.

The new tramway route via Popowice will connect the tram trackage beside Mieszczańskie bridges with the tram trackage at ul. Milenijna. It will run via Dmowskiego, Długa, Starogroblowa and Popowicka streets. The new tram trackage will be almost 4 km long. The investment covers also the creation of full infrastructure, almost 5.5 km of rebuilt roads and 21 new stops. This is one of the biggest transport investments in Wroclaw.  It is co-financed from the European Union, and its cost exceeds 222 million PLN.

Detours

Changes in road traffic organisation are planned for 6 months. The biggest changes will concern drivers going from and towards the Kozanów housing estate.

From ul. Pilczycka at the intersection with ul. Milenijna, drivers will be required to turn right. From ul. Milenijna (bridge), it will only be possible to drive straight or turn right. From ul. Milenijna – from the Na Ostatnim Groszu direction, only driving straight will be possible.

From ul. Popowicka, it will be possible to drive in all directions. Along the section from ul. Wejherowska to ul. Milenijna, ul. Popowicka will be a one-way street.

To the centre

From 8th May, drivers from ul. Lotnicza will not turn left towards Kozanów and the Milenijny bridge. The detour will run through ul. Wejherowska.

At the intersection of Popowicka and Wejherowska streets, the roadway will be narrowed – consequently, the bus turnout will be withdrawn from operation and moved to another place.

From the centre

From ul. Popowicka, drivers will not turn right to the northern roadway of the Milenijny bridge. Drivers will use a part of the southern roadway leading from the bridge to the centre. Therefore, it will not be possible to turn left at the exit from the Milenijny bridge into ul. Popowicka – drivers will have to go straight through ul. Milenijna and then turn left into ul. Legnicka and ul. Wejherowska.

Changes in bus stop locations

The reconstruction of the intersection involves also changes in routes of 15 bus lines: C, 101, 102, 103, 104, 119, 122, 126, 127, 128, 129, 140, 143, 319 and 245. Most of the changes concern the location of bus stops.
