It took almost a year to transfer the special collection to a new University Library building. Concurrently, the renovation of the building has continued Over the last few years, new roofing has been provided and the elevations of the wings and the portico have been renovated. At the moment restoration work in the upper storey interiors is being carried out.
The former seat of the Special Collection Library is a large building with a massive two-storey high attic. Impressive are its staircase and long corridors lined with doors leading to smaller rooms, which is a visible trace of the original function of the building, initially erected as an Augustine Order monastery.
One wall of the building is adjacent to The Church of Our Lady in Piasek Island. However, the most impressive of all is its quaint and shaded cloister, even though it calls for some maintenance.
Last year the governance of the University of Wrocław announced that the building in Piasek Island would be handed over to the students of the Faculty of Philology reading in Journalism and Social Communication and Jewish Studies. The building is going to house the Institute of Classical, Mediterranean and Oriental Studies and the School of Polish Language and Culture for Foreign Students.
