European Film Awards

There was no ceremony like this before in Wrocław. On the occasion of European cinematography – 29th The European Film Awards – We will have a chance to see the most famous European and global actors and directors like Pierce Brosnan, Pedro Almodóvar, Wim Wenders, Jean-Claude Carrière on 10th December in Wrocław.

„The European Film Awards” ceremony is called European’s Oscars, because of solemn style similar to the biggest American’s Awards. Invited celebrities walk the red carpet dressed in elegant outfits, pose for press photographers and render that the magic of Cinema becomes tangible. The host of the ceremony will be Maciej Stuhr.

It’s likely that we will have a chance to see also Hugh Grand, Isabelle Huppert, Ken Loach and Cristian Mungiu on the red carpet. „It’s confirmed that Pierce Brosnan will come to Wrocław. He is going to collect the Award for totality of his career and for promoting European movies in the world. Also Wim Wenders, the chairman of European Film Academy and Pedro Almodóvar will arrive at the ceremony. I hope that every nominated person will appear” – said Agata Burdzy from „New Horizons Cinema”

„The European Film Awards” ceremony will take place in National Forum of Music.

Meeting in DCF

WKF organizes also „Meeting of the young European and Polish movie makers / Obchody Roku Kieślowskiego” on 8th December in Dolnośląskie Centrum Filmowe with the participation of film makers nominated in „European Film Awards 2016”( in „Discovery” and „Short Film” categories) and also young polish film makers i.a. from Wrocław. In the program of the meeting is special screening „The best fireworks ever” directed by Aleksandra Terpińska, winning project in a competition for a script based on Krzysztof Kieślowski’s „Przypadek” organized by Kino Polska Television  and also conference moderated by Michał Chaciński during which Ewa Puszczyńska and Krzysztof Zannusi are going to talk about how to get a career in acting.

Celebrities in „New Horizons Cinema”

The most interesting meetings wait for inhabitants of Wrocław in „New Horizons Cinema”

On Friday, 9th December, There will take place a meeting with Jean-Claud Carrière – award winner for totality of artistic creativity (Lifetime Achievement Award). After talk, people will have a chance to see Oscar’s short film „Szczęśliwa rocznica” (1962) and Andrzej Wajda’s „Danton” (1982) based on Carrière’s script. The meeting will be held in English with simultaneous translation into Polish.

On Sunday, 11th December, It’s the last day of Wim Wenders’ two-month retrospective. He’s a prominent film director, winner of the Golden Lion for „The State of the Things”, Golden Palm for „Paris, Texas” and award in Cannes for directing „Wings of Desire”. Wim Wenders will be the guest of two screenings of his films – He will meet with the audience of „Piny 3D” at 4 p.m. and after polish premiere of the „The Beautiful Days of Aranjuez” at 8.15 p.m.. Both meetings will be translated  simultaneously into Polish.

Popular, Irish actor Pierce Brosnan, well known from James Bond’s movies („Golden eye”, „Tomorrow Never Dies”, „The World Is Not Enough”, „Die Another Day” and also from musical „Mamma Mia” or commedy of manners „Love Is All You Need”  confirmed his presence. Brosnan will meet the audience of the „New Horizons Cinema” before the screening of „The Thomas Crown Affair” (movie was chosen personally by Brosnan)  at 4 p.m. on Saturday, 10th December. Meeting will be translate simultaneously into Polish.

„European Film Awards” ceremony will be broadcasts live on TV stations in whole Europe on 10th of  December and also in „New Horizons Cinema” to give a fans of European cinema the chance to celebrate this very important event for Wrocław. Live streaming will start at 7.30 p.m. and will be translate simultaneously into Polish.

On Saturday, 10th December, We will have chance to see 42 full-length productions: plots, documentary films , animations and 15 full-length movies. Among them there are films which will be for the first time in Polish cinema: Paul Verhoeven’s „Elle” with excellent role Isabelle Huppert (nomination for European Actress of the Year) or the winner of this year’s The Cannes Festival „Un Certain Regard”– Juho Kuosmanena’s „The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki”. Program includes also pre-release of the „Toni Erdmann” movie directed by Maren Ade or exciting documentary „Mr. Gaga” directed by Israeli, Tomer Heymann.

It’s also an excellent occasion to watch favourite European movies of 2016: Pedro Almodóvar’s „Julieta” (nominations in 4 categories), „Bacalaureat” directed by Cristian Mungiu (2 nominations) and „I, Daniel Blake” directed by Ken Loach (4 nominations). Film shows will take place in 9 cinema halls from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.. Selected movies will be presented with English subtitles.
