Trawmay track overhaul comes to end

The projects to overhaul tramway tracks in ul Świdnicka/Podwale, Wróblewskiego and Kujawska are slowly coming to an end. One more project at the intersection of ul Piłsudskiego/Świdnicka starts after 15 August.

The tramway track overhaul in ul Wróblewskiego is now coming to an end. A section between ul Kopernika and Tramwajowa has been thoroughly renovated. A plasser, that is, a rail track laying machine which stabilises the track both vertically and horizontally, arrived on the site last week. This week, the workers are focusing on maintenance and finishing works. The entire project is expected to conclude by 14 August. This means that trams are getting back to Biskupin.

A similar job is coming to a close in ul Kujawska. The track in the area called for reconstruction. With the old track finally removed, ground beams are now covered with concrete slabs.

As of midweek, a plasser is expected to appear is a 400-metre long track section, and the contractors will proceed to maintenance and finishing works prior to the project completion," says Ewa Mazur, Spokesperson at the Road and City Maintenance Office. Likewise, the work to overhaul the intersection of ul Podwale and Świdnicka is also coming to a close. The tracks have been planted, and the space between them has been filled with concrete. This part of the project is also expected to conclude by 14 August. If everything goes according to plan, the workers will move on overhaul one more intersection in ul Piłsudskiego/Świdnicka. Tram timetables are also due to change.

"Tram services must resume operation in the above sections for another project to begin after 15 August to replace 16 St Andrew bracings at the intersection of ul Piłsudskiego and Świdnicka," explains Ewa Mazur from the Road and City Maintenance Office.

The good news is that the latter stage in the project is expected to take only 7 days and comes to a close on 21 August. However, is is necessary that diversions are provided for passengers. "A special curving route will be provided for motorised vehicles to bypass the site," announces Ewa Mazur.

The project, which is worth 748 thousand PLN, is carried out by a consortium of Spolbud and Zakład Torowy.
