Tomasz, one of the inhabitants of the house at Gajowa, cannot believe his own eyes. When he was moving in December, he was struck by the look of a dirty passage daubed with graffiti. 'Now it looks really fine and attractive,’ he praises the work of the performer NeSpoon.
Murals in Wroclaw gates are a part of ‘Entrance from the backyard’ – a project being implemented under ECC 2016. ‘We want to step into the space and change it by means of art,’ stresses Michał Bieniek, ECC’s Visual Arts Curator. The passage at Gajowa 44 was selected from among many others by the performer NeSpoon. ‘It serves as a natural shelter when it rains or when you want to talk to your neighbour for a few minutes more or see your girlfriend home,’ explains NeSpoon.
Her ‘Gate to Everything’ (which actually means 'to dreams’) consists of two murals placed opposite each other and four illuminated panels that will turn on when someone goes through the gate at night. ‘I have wanted to make a mural with lamps for a long time, because this triggers a better power of good emotions,’ admits the performer. She chose the lace pattern deliberately, because she specialises in creating works with lace motifs and she collects various patterns. She hopes that graffiti artists will not interfere in her mural.
