The World Games 2017 – One Year To Go

One year before The World Games 2017 in Wroclaw, a cycle of events promoting Games of Non-Olympic Sports will take place. This will be an opportunity to meet well-known sportspeople, try your hand in various sports or even start practising them for good.

The most important sport element of the celebration of ‘One Year To Go’ will be the final tournament of the European Champions League in American Football with the participation of our Wroclaw wild cats – the Panthers Wrocław team. The semi-finals and the grand final will be played at the stadium at ul. Oporowska.

Wroclaw will welcome also participants of Polish Youth Olympic Days in Summer Sports. This year, non-Olympic sports were included in the program of this event for the first time. 400 young sportspeople will compete in 10 various sports at TWG2017.

Already at the end of July, you will have an opportunity to try your hand in sports included in The World Games 2017 almost every day. Workshops will take place at the pergola near the Centennial Hall and in special zones of TWG2017 at Plac Społeczny square.

On summer weekends, you can meet and exercise together with representatives of sports from the program of Olympic Games on the Oder and in Park Południowy [Southern Park]. Under the holiday cycle ‘Exercise with a Champion of The World Games’, everybody can take part in activities conducted, among others, by Maciej Janowski (Betard Sparta Wrocław) – a speedway team champion and a participant in the elite Grand Prix, professional kick-boxing champion Michał Turyński (Fighters Wrocław), sports aerobics specialist Jolanta Sobieraj (AWF Wrocław), Olympic silver medalist in rowing Paweł Rańda, karate champion Magdalena Nowakowska (Budokan Wrocław) and American football player Patryk Matkowski (Panthers Wrocław).

The grand final of ‘One Year To Go’ is scheduled for 30th July. On the stage erected at Plac Wolności, Kortez, Xxanaxx, Bokka and Gromee will perform. Entrance will be free of charge. ‘The concert will be a very important test for the place where ‘The World Games Plaza’ – a fan zone with lots of attractions for visitors – will be situated and where the closing ceremony of The World Games 2017 will be held,’ says Kacper Cecota, the spokesman for TWG 2017.
