  3. New roads, street and trackage renovations

The city summarised investments in infrastructure that had been carried out during the last three years. Plans for the period 2014-2017 were presented, too. There will be plenty of work on roads, bridges and trackages.

“We show planned tasks in the minimum plan. The allocation of EU funds are still being negotiated and it is difficult to determine everything in advance. Apart from urban investments, we will certainly apply for additional funding for agglomeration projects in co-operation with our partners from communes surrounding Wroclaw,” announced Maciej Bluj, the Deputy Mayor of Wroclaw.

In the years 2010-2013, Wroclaw invested 1.4 bln PLN in the improvement of the condition of its infrastructure. Among already completed major investments, it is worth mentioning, e.g., the construction of the city centre ring road, the construction of infrastructure around the stadium or the construction of ul. Graniczna. At the same time, many streets were rebuilt, including Pułaskiego, Krakowska, Świeradowska, Grabiszyńska or Bardzka.Wroclaw roads – investments (photos BEFORE and AFTER)

The list of major investments entered into city plans includes, e.g., the construction of the Leśnica ring road, the construction of the Great Island Alley, ul. Nowogorlicka, ul. Racławicka and ul. Gwizdanowska. Altogether, the city wants to spend over 1.1 bln PLN for all investments in the road infrastructure until 2017.

Many Wroclaw streets will be rebuilt. Some investments have already started, whereas others are in the planning stage. 14 kilometres of municipal roads are to be rebuilt within 3 years. There is also a plan to build a special separate route for public transport - the so-called “metrobus” – to Nowy Dwór from ul. Nowodworska to ul. Góralska. The conception and documentation preparation stage is to be finished in 2014, and implementation and construction works are planned for years 2015-2016.

The city plans to spend around 200 mln PLN for the improvement of already existing roads within the next few years. These improvement works will cover trackages, pavements, road surfaces and repairs of bridges. The list of streets to be renovated contains more than 20 items.

Apart from roads, Wroclaw bridges will also be renovated. Most of the investments will be financed by the Wroclaw city, and some will be additionally supported by the Regional Water Management Authority.

For the improvement of safety, new traffic lights will be installed at the cost of around 9 mln PLN. According to plans, these works will cover several locations until 2017.

Wroclaw plans to spend 24 mln PLN for the improvement of the condition of team trackages. Apart from ongoing investments (Grabiszyńska trackage), works in locations such as the Zawalna balloon loop and ul. Wróblewskiego are planned. In addition, trackages will be equipped with modern switches and points that will allow trams to move faster across intersections.

A large number of cycling investments is also planned. Until 2017, additional 50 kilometres of cycle routes is to be built in Wroclaw. The city intends to spend around 24 mln PLN for this purpose. New bike lanes, locks and parking places will be created. Similar amounts will be appropriated for local initiatives submitted by inhabitants; therefore, new road surfaces will appear on a number of streets, including Blacharska, Sygnałowa, Ułańska or Jarocińska, only within this year.
