Pan Tadeusz Museum open to public on 3 May

Two historic 17th-century houses in Wroclaw\'s Main Market Square hold a breath-taking collection belonging to the Pan Tadeusz Museum. The collection holds not only the manuscript of Adam Mickiewicz\'s renowned epic poem, but also an ingeniously and wisely designed multimedia exhibition on Polish history and culture. The opening of the Museum marks the commencement of Wroclaw\'s tenure as the UNESCO World Book Capital on 23 April. However, the Museum will not be available to the public until 3 May.

A wonderfully designed corridor (imitating murals characteristic of Communist Poland) will lead you from Afterimage Room to the Offices of the Witnesses of History. Their biographies are presented in alternate order, and can provide inspiration for a number of films, presentations and games," says Marcin Hamkało. You will be able to hear original speeches from the period, peep through a spyhole to see what is happening in an interrogation room, and even sit by a censor's desk to see what damage they could do to a text and restore it its original condition.

The ground floor (entrance from the Main Market Square) is going to hold a cashier's desk, café, shop and educational rooms. Level -1 is going to house a cinema room for 40 viewers and educational rooms.

Education is one of the pillars of the Museum's mission. Special educational scripts have been prepared for the teachers. The plan is to make the Museum intriguing for the visitors, and to provoke heated debated about "Pan Tadeusz". You will also be able to try a costume from the period (as suggested in one of the scripts) or engage in a discussion with an avatar (created by animation artists wearing a special costume in a separate room). The Museum's offer caters for schools as well as families, adults and extracurricular classes (visual arts, literary, even cooking). Young people are extremely important for the Pan Tadeusz Museum. After 15 April, primary and secondary school students from Wroclaw and Lower Silesia will be invited to test the multimedia and have a preview of the exhibition.
