The Kozanów estate and the vicinity will be covered in artworks created in a collaborative effort from the residents, who help the artists to take a new angle on their neighbourhood. Unusual and surprising works were created as a result: a skip that resonates with unusual acoustic compositions, an inscription made of objects donated by the residents or a canal and tunnel rolled into one to serve children as a playground.
The artists demonstrate with their works that Kozanów is a perfect place to seek the legendary Liczyrzepa or shoot an underwater television report. The artists also draw on the past with their installations inspired by the Jewish Cemetery in ul Lotnicza or Zachodni Park, which used to be a necropolis. On the opening night, the façade of what once used to be a concrete silo at the wet dock will serve as a screen for special projections that celebrate the event.
"The exhibition is just striking in the way it re-examines Wroclaw's suburban areas, which are now slightly forgotten. The exhibitions has been primarily designed for the residents, who are strongly encouraged to engage with the artists and their activities in two different ways: directly as co-creators and indirectly by taking part in discussions on site-specific installations created in the project", says the project's coordinator Natalia Romaszkan.
"Kozanów: In Search of the Marvellous" brings a variety of unusual interdisciplinary projects in usual, everyday spaces in which people live or spaces that you go past unwittingly, without paying much attention to them. In one way or another, each project relates to Koznow's history and everyday life.
The event is held as part of the Wroclaw Inside Out project, which is featured in the ECC Wroclaw 2016 visual arts programme.
The exhibition, which starts on 23 June and continues until 4 September, will be accompanied by a variety of performances, film activities and discussions.
