Wroclaw play of light [EXHIBITION]

The preview of the "Wroclaw Play of Light" photography exhibition kicks off at 7 pm on Thursday 20 August at the courtyard of the building in Plac Solny 14. The event serves as a great opportunity to meet three photographers who hopelessly fell in love with Wroclaw and would like to share a little of this spell-binding magic in their photographs.

None of them were born in Wroclaw, but only few people can convey the city's magic in their photographs better than they do. Jarosław Ciuruś, Maciej Lulko and our colleague Janusz Krzeszowski has organised a joint exhibition of their works.

They bumped into each other on one of the roofs in Wroclaw. It turned out that they share two interests: photography and Wroclaw. They have been meeting for outdoor sessions ever since. Never at noon. Always at dusk or at dawn. They can wake up at the dead of night to arrive at the right place and the right time to photograph a landscape at d "Only then can you catch intriguing lights," says Janusz Krzeszowski. The lights turn their photographs into colourful images that go beyond mere cityscape postcards.

Jarosław Ciuruś likes to hang around in Słodowa Island in Wroclaw. "Piaskowy and Tumski Bridges, the Wroclaw University area. The place may seem hackneyed, but I can always find some interesting and new angle," he says. "I like sunrise best because it guarantees the best lighting and great photographs. I also like sunsets, haze, intriguing cloud shapes and nocturnes. I'm also passionate about water. Water can add pastoral or stormy qualities to your photograph, and it also blurs beautifully," he adds.

"I am particularly attracted to the modernist side of the city and how to record it in my photographs," says Maciej Lulko. "I like this city for all things new and modern, but I can also fall in love with places like Wroclaw's Manhattan, even though it is quite off-putting, dirty and smelly. This place is one of my favourite, if not the most favourite, in the city to take photographs because of my architecture studies, a passion for learning new things and copying from professionals. My first conscious pictures feature modernist apartment blocks," he explains.

You can meet the photographers in person at 7 pm on Thursday. Their photographs are on display in the courtyard in Plac Solny 14 by the end of the year.
