  3. Wroclaw attracts specialists

Polish cities compete increasingly often for the title of the most attractive location for work, life and business. Because of the good brand of the city, best specialists and managers want to live there. Moreover, the favourable reputation of the city attracts new investors to the region, thus allowing it to develop even more dynamically.

Antal International published results of the 4th edition of the survey “Activity of specialists and managers on the labour market”. These results show that Wroclaw was selected as the most attractive city for change of residence for the fourth time.

From the perspective of employers, particularly new investors, it is important which cities are found to be the most attractive in terms of relocation for a group of specialists and managers. Wroclaw became the leader for the 4th time – 15.6% of respondents chose it as the most attractive place for new residence, with Warsaw (13.4%) and Kraków (13.2%) ranking right behind it.

“Once again, the survey demonstrates the good condition of the Wroclaw labour market, which should persist also in the next few years. Excellent location on the map of Europe and the proximity of the western border create an ideal logistic base for foreign companies to open their branches there and to invest in the development of their business”, comments Konrad Mazurek, the manager of the office of Antal International in Wroclaw.

It’s the quality of life that counts

Wrocław not only creates professional development opportunities, but it also offers the possibility of finding a balance between work and private life.

“Many of our candidates who decide to relocate to Wroclaw appreciate the fact that this city is a good place to achieve right proportions between life and work. Companies are increasingly more concerned about their employees being happy and not frustrated, and Wroclaw is definitely a very friendly city for this purpose. The capital of Lower Silesia allows people to enjoy all advantages of a large and dynamic city that abounds in professional development opportunities with the most attractive employers on the market, without the need of compromise at the expense of peace and slowing of pace when this is desired," notices Konrad Mazurek.

Over half of respondents (51%) decided to relocate for professional reasons at least once in their life. This is a very high score, which reflects the high mobility of this group of specialists and managers. Respondents answered also the question which conditions a job offer would have to fulfil to make them change their residence. Financial aspects and higher remuneration were definitely the most frequently mentioned factors (27%).

Conditions for change of job

When asked to indicate minimum factors that a job offer must contain in order to be considered by a candidate, most respondents referred to higher remuneration in their answers. Answering the question about the expected increase of remuneration in the case of a change of job, specialists and managers indicated the value of 25% on average. However, when asked about the actual reason of their last change of job, respondents admit that development opportunities – acquiring new competences and participating in new projects – were the most important thing (28%). Remuneration was only the second decisive factor (24%).

Whom do employers want to acquire?

The demand for a specific profile of employees is reflected primarily by a number of invitations to participate in recruitment projects that were sent to respondents during the last year.“Wroclaw abounds in very well qualified specialists, but their number is not unlimited and, sooner or later, it becomes necessary to look for these specialists in more distant cities, such as Kraków, Poznań, Łódź or Warsaw. The biggest shortage of specialists occurs certainly in the IT area and shared service centres, where specialists with a command of specific languages are sought for positions of analysts or accountants. In the IT industry, if we are to indicate a specific profile, there has recently been the definitely highest demand for .NET programmers and, invariably for the last few years, for Java programmers and mobile technology programmers,” comments Konrad Mazurek.
