Organ music summer in Wroclaw
This weekend, organ festival "Non Sola Scripta" begins. Through all the Sundays of July and August, renowned organists will present their skills in the Collegiate of St. Cross in Ostrów Tumski. But there's more! Enthusiasts of the polyphonic instrument can count on a lot of attractions.
On Sunday, July 5th, Organ Evenings kick off at Divine Providence Church, i.e. a series of concerts by renowned organists, who will play in the small Lutheran church at ul. Kazimierza Wielkiego. This interior is beloved by musicians. Last year, none other than Giovanni Antonini (the famous Italian conductor, artistic director of Wratislavia Cantans) played a concert here with the musicians from the Il Giardino Armonico.
Just as it's been for a few years now, the music reins will be taken by the organists themselves, but this year will be special due to the upcoming 10th, jubilee edition of the festival. Recitals will be held every Sunday from July 5 to August 30. The programme features great masterpieces of organ music, starting from Johann Sebastian Bach and ending with contemporary composers.
Stars in the Divine Providence Church
You can expect a lot of emotions, because genuine masters of organ music will perform for the Wroclaw audience, literally from all over the world. Poland will be represented by Jarosław Wroblewski (August 19), Marek Pilch (23 August), and Susi Ferfoglia (the Italian, who currently teaches at the Music Academy in Krakow - August 30). The guests from Europe include Italian Maurizio Croci (5 July), German Matthias Schmelmer (July 26), Frenchman Guy Bovet (August 2, a concert dedicated to the memory of Magdalena Czajka, a Wroclaw organist who died two years ago) and Austrian Wolfgang Kogert (9 August). Finally, there will be guests from America (Kevin Birch, July 12) and New Zealand (Sarah Kim on July 19).
Admission to all concerts is free. Each evening begins at 7 p.m.
