Jazz Club Vertigo to open on Sunday [PHOTOS]

When you feel a vertigo you feel as if the world was spinning around you. And this is precisely what the new jazz club wants you to experience. It is going to make your head spin and attract a regular clientèle of those who love jazz and alternative atmosphere."I have to admit I want Vertigo to become a landmark on Poland's musical map," says Adam Domagała, Vertigo's Music Manager.Vertigo is located in the basement of the Business Center Save The World. Vertigo's main entrance is in ul. Oławska, just behind the perfume store. Vertigo's beating heart is a Yamaha C2 which also commands the space filled with the tables for the audience.Around 200 guests can make themselves comfortable while listening to the music. The interior is dominated by red and various shades of mahogany. The walls feature pictures by Wroclaw photographers, including Lech Basela, Tomasz Walków and Sławomir Przerwa. The photographs represent famous jazz men who performed in Wroclaw.

"We will have live gigs almost every day. You can expect Wroclaw musicians to perform, but we are also planning to invite stars to perform every other week," says Adam Domagała.Vertigo is the only genuine jazz club in Wroclaw. Will they be able to carry on the tradition of the legendary Jazz Club Rura? "We are being repeatedly asked this. Rura was a legendary joint and I don't think it makes sense to defile the legend. Vertigo is a completely different story as a club where you can both enjoy music and have a delicious meal," explains Adam Domagała.The club boasts great acoustics which, according to Vertigo's Music Manager, is probably the best in Wroclaw and specially suited to the needs of the jazz audience.

Monika Borzym on stage

Vertigo's opening night on Sunday will feature Monika Borzym, a singer who collaborated with the John Hersey High School Choir. They appeared at the New Trire Festival, where Borzym was given the Outstanding Soloist award. She has also learnt jazz improvisation under Gail Bisesi in Chicago.

Borzym received the University of Miami Frost School of Music Grant in 2008. She was also the only Polish musician and the only female singer to receive an invitation to join Michał Urbaniak in his performace during the Jazz Jamboree Festival in 2009. She signed a record deal with Sony Music in May 2010. Her début album "Girl Talk" was released in October 2011. Her second studio LP "My Place" came out in 2013.Monika Borzym is expected to perform at Jazz Club Vertigo on Sunday 15. February at 7 p.m. Tickets available at 40 PLN.
