The number of tourists in Europe is rising, with Poland seeing the fastest growth

  • The number of overnight stays in tourist facilities in 2025 is over 3.08 billion, which means 2% more than in the previous year.
  • Poland saw the biggest increase in this respect – the number of overnight stays has increased by over 7%, exceeding 104 million.
  • Poland ranks eighth on the list of the most popular tourist destinations; the top three are Spain, Italy and France.

Wroclaw attracts more and more tourists

Tourist figures in Wroclaw have once again reached record levels. According to a study based on mobile phone data, 7 million people visited our city in 2025 – 6% more than in the previous year, when the figure stood at 6.6 million.

Jacek Sutryk, Mayor of Wroclaw: ‘7 million visitors to Wroclaw is a fantastic achievement and a proof that Wroclaw is becoming an increasingly prominent destination on Poland’s tourist map. Far more people – 56% of all our visitors – chose to stay in our city for at least one night than the year before.’ This is very good news for the local tourism sector, which employs around 8% of the total workforce, but also for all residents – increased tourist traffic means more funds flowing into our budget, which can be used to carry out new investments or to renovate the existing infrastructure.[/quote]

The number of tourists’ overnight stays in Wroclaw in 2025 was 400,000 higher than in the previous year, rising from 3.5 million to 3.9 million. The number of one-day visitors, however, remained at the same level – 3.1 million people.

Guests arrive for longer stays

The overview of tourist traffic in Wroclaw in 2025 was compiled, among others, on the basis of data from the Central Statistical Office (GUS) and STR, information provided by hotels and Wroclaw’s tourist attractions, and data supplied by mobile phone operators. The full version of the presentation is available on the website of the Wroclaw Tourist Organisation.

The most spectacular increase has been in the number of tourists who stayed in accommodation in Wroclaw, with a total of 1,593,000 overnight stays. ‘This is 18.3 per cent more than in 2024. ‘This means we have now exceeded the number of overnight stays recorded before the pandemic,’ says Janusz Bujko of Beeline Research & Consulting Sobolewska Bujko. 'In this ranking, Warsaw and Kraków remain at the top of the list. Wroclaw is still ahead of Gdańsk, but the gap between the two cities has narrowed significantly.’

Among those staying overnight in the capital of Lower Silesia, there was an increase of over 12% in domestic tourists and over 35% in foreign tourists.’

‘The number of tourists staying overnight is significant, as these visitors tend to stay in the city for longer and visit Wroclaw’s attractions and restaurants,’ said Alfred Wagner, Deputy Director of the Department of Promotion and Tourism of the Wroclaw City Office.

Spending by tourists and same-day visitors is estimated at PLN 4.95 billion, compared with PLN 4.5 billion in 2024.

The highest number of visitors came to Wroclaw in the summer (July–August) and in December.

Germans make up the largest group on the list of foreign visitors, followed by: Czechs, the British, Norwegians and Italians, and the largest groups of tourists from Poland come from Masovia and Wielkopolska provinces.

Moreover, when taking into account both overnight stays and same-day visitors, the figures are better than those for 2024. In 2025, there were over 7 million of them, compared with 6.6 million in the previous year.

Tourist attractions: The fair and international events

Tourist traffic figures show that the Christmas Market is a major draw for visitors.

The key events included the UEFA Conference League final between Chelsea and Real Betis, which attracted large crowds from the British Isles and Spain, as well as Ed Sheeran’s concerts.

Radosław Michalski, Director of the City Brand Department of the Wroclaw City Office: ‘Wrocław’s strengths lie in its attractions, its location and the expansion of the airport – the gateway to Wroclaw – which make it easier to welcome an ever-increasing number of visitors. Tourists also come here because of the atmosphere in our city; they feel safe and looked after here.’
