Intel’s representatives: 'Although Intel has decided not to proceed with its planned investment near Wroclaw, we keep up our operations in Gdańsk, where our largest R&D centre in Europe is located. In an interview with Radio Wrocław, the Mayor of Miękinia Jan Grzegorczyn emphasised that despite Intel's decision to abandon the project, the Miękinia commune is continuing its activities related to the development of the industrial site. ‘A transport system, a water treatment plant and a sewage treatment plant are under construction. This will probably be the only developed land of around 400 hectares in Poland that will be ready for investment,’ the mayor told Radio Wrocław.

Intel: It was to be the largest foreign investment in Poland
Intel's investment was one of the flagship projects of Mateusz Morawiecki's government. In June 2023, it was announced in the presence of the Prime Minister in Wroclaw that US-based Intel would build a Semiconductor Integration and Testing Facility. The US giant's plans were personally presented by Mark Brzezinski, US Ambassador to Poland. The plant was to be built in the Wroclaw agglomeration in Miękinia. It was to be the largest foreign investment in Poland: USD 4.6 billion and 2,000 jobs.
What did Intel plan to produce at the new plant near Wroclaw?
Intel's investment in Poland, combined with the existing silicon wafer fabrication plant in Ireland and the second planned silicon wafer fabrication plant in Magdeburg, Germany, was to create a comprehensive and most technologically advanced supply chain in semiconductor chip manufacturing – the first of this kind in Europe.
