People from Książkowe Klimaty are committed to helping people from Aleppo, Syria. "We've decided that we must do something about it. We've selected a book that is fitting to the subject because it brings the tragedy of Aleppo, Syria, that happened a century ago," says Tomasz Zaród from Książkowe Klimaty.
"Book of Whispers" by Varujan Vosganian is an extremely refined narrative that brings the story of the Armenian Genocide, which was perpetrated by Turkey in 1915. While describing the tragedy, the book also commemorates the victims. The book was recognised with the Natalya Gorbanyevskaya Readers' Award and the Angelus Central European Literary Award for the author and the translator Joanna Kornaś-Warwas.
Varujan Vosganian said in the gala: "As I was writing "Book of Whispers", I was perfectly aware that there are a lot of narratives of this kind about the 20th century. "Book of Whispers" tells a story of the Armenian community, but also about Romanians, Jews and other ethnicities. This book is about the 20th century, its world wars, massacres and mass graves, ideologies and repressions. But not only. Each place, each time and each nation have their own "Book of Whispers". All these stories are living stories. All you need to do is tell them".
The entire income generated by "Book of Whispers" until 31 December will be transferred to the Polish Humanitarian Action. The book is available at 35 PLN at Książkowe Klimaty's online store.
