Dyrekcyjna and Borowska intersection overhaul: diversion routes [MAPS]

"As of 25 June, an overhaul begins in ul Dyrekcyjna (the intersection with ul Borowska) and a section of ul Joannitów", said the representative of Unibail-Rodamco, the developer of the Wroclavia Shopping Centre. Traffic will be restricted in the area due to overhaul. The area will also be closed for public transport. Restrictions for passengers will continue until the end of the summer holidays, the drivers will probably have to use diversion routes until the end of the year.

The overhaul has been designed following the participation agreement between the city and the Wroclavia Shopping Centre developers. The section of ul Dyrekcyjna and Joannitów will be provided with a new road surface, tram cross-overs, bicycle lanes and greenery. The entire underground infrastructure will be replaced while the traffic signal system will be upgraded to the ITS system. The old emergency tram track, which is no longer in use, will disappear in ul Dyrekcyjna. An entrance to the shopping centre's car park will be provided in ul Joannitów, and a safe entrance and exit will be provided for PKS coaches in ul Dyrekcyjna. Following the overhaul, traffic organisation in the area is expected to remain the same.

Restrictions for drivers, replacement services for passengers

The investment requires that a number of changes are made in car traffic and public transport organisation in the area. Restrictions for passengers will continue until the end of the summer holidays, the drivers will probably have to use diversion routes until the end of the year.

Changes for drivers

    • Ul Dyrekcyjna will be closed for traffic between ul Ślężna and ul Gajowa.
    • The intersection of ul Borowska and Dyrekcyjna will be open for traffic along the Browska axis, from the intersection with ul Gliniana towards ul Sucha.

The diversion towards ul Hubska will be provided using the following streets: Sucha and Ślężnąm. The diversion from ul Ślężna will in turn lead along ul Gliniana, Łódzka and Gajowa.

  • The diversion will offer only limited access to parking spaces, and the right of way will be reorganised at the following intersections: Łódzka - Gliniana, Łódzka - Gajowa, Gajowa - Dawida and Gajowa - Dyrekcyjna.
  • The section of ul Joannitów between ul Sucha and ul Dyrekcyjna will be closed for traffic.

Changes for passengers

The overhaul requires that changes must be made in public transport organisation, which will have gone back to normal by the end of the summer holidays.

  • trams 8, 9 and 15 will be suspended,
  • trams 31 and 32 will be shortened to reach the Coach Station only, where trams will be diverted to another track using a special lap joint,
  • bus 122 will start and finish the service in ul Petrusewicza,
  • night services 241, 243, 245, 246, 247, 249, 251, 253, 255, 257 i 259 will be diverted from traffic in ul Sucha,
  • temporary services will be provided.

More tram services

Due to the investment, MPK will have to close the depot in ul Kamienna. This brings a number of implications for the passengers. The trams will be calling at the Powstańców Śląskich depot instead. "The good news is that new trams will be used more, whereas the oldest rolling stock will remain at the depot for renovation purposes.

Modern, air-conditioned and suited to the needs of disabled passengers, the trams will appear in a number of new locations. This is largely due to the fact that the EU authorities gave their consent to use Skoda 19 T in rush hours to provide services they were not allocated to previously (31, 32, 33). Once the necessary changes have been put in place at the end of the lines, modern trams will be providing service to Sępolno and Leśnica.

Information campaign

The investor and the city authorities have come up with a special information campaign to facilitate the overhaul. As of 20 June, buses and trams will feature information displayed on posters and LCD screens about changes in traffic organisation and public transport in the area. Additionally, from 20 June to 1 July, at the end of each line just before the intersection, passengers will be offered leaflets with maps and information on changes in traffic organisation and directions to the nearest temporary bus or tram stop.

The leaflets will be available at the nearest institutions, public offices, shops, the temporary PKS Coach Station and the Main Railway Station.
