Morricone, or beauty
Ennio Morricone is not just an artist; he is a household name. And he also guarantees perfect formal quality. His music is both beautiful and catching. There are few cinema-goers who would fail to recall his dazzling pieces from "The Mission" by Roland Joffé or moving Deborah's theme from "Once Upon a Time in America" by Sergio Leone. Let alone the sentimental soundtrack to "Malena" by Giuseppe Tornatore. Ennio Morricone was even able to win the heart of the rebellious Quentin Tarantino, who hired the composer's services to several productions of his, "Inglourious Basterds" included.
Man of many talents
Although he was awarded only one honorary Oscar in 2007, his fans know that he deserves at least as many as John Williams (four). Ennio Morricone has been touring in Poland before, but this is the first time he is arriving with a new programme to celebrate his 60th anniversary as a composer. To make it clear, the Italian maestro is not just a film music composers. He has also created works for symphonic orchestra (including "Tra Cielo e Terra", which was dedicated to John Paul II), for voice and orchestra, organ and harpsichord. He is also known for his arrangement for pop music by artists such as Paul Anka, Sting or Pet Shop Boys.
Maestro at the Centennial Hall
The 87-year-old Maestro is coming to Wroclaw with his own orchestra and a choir to perform at the Centennial Hall on 23 February 2016. The programme brings a selection of the best pieces by the composer. Tickets are available from 5 October. "It is absolutely wonderful that ECC Wroclaw 2016 festivities coincide with a performance by one of the greatest global culture ambassadors who also celebrates his 60th anniversary as a composer," adds ECC Wroclaw 2016 Director Krzysztof Maj.
