They became engaged this year, in March. "The engagement was nothing special when compared to the wedding," says Marek, a newly wed husband. "We had several scenarios of how to get engaged, but in the end everything happened spontaneously. I remember that we watched "Batman", and on the spur of the moment I asked Martyna to marry me, and she said yes," he adds.
They became engaged while watching "Batman", and got married to the sounds of Rock'n'Roll
It was Marek's idea to get married at the Woodstock Poland Festival. "I have to honestly say that it was one of my greatest dreams. We were planning to take a church wedding at the festival, but we finally settled for a ceremony at the Registrar's Office," he says. "At the beginning, we tried to have the wedding at the festival, but the organisers explained that it would be to difficult to organise the event. However, everything went smoothly and quickly at the Registrar's Office. There was some hassle later on because I lost my ID, Martyna found a connection from the UK only two days before the festival, and the wedding rings disappeared, but everything turned out for the best in the end," says Marek laughingly. The organisation and the idea are important, but finally you have to inform your parents. "The family, both mine and Martyna's, were slightly surprised with our idea, but they turned out to be enthusiastic. It was extremely moving to have our parents at the festival. It was their first time at the event, just as it was for other guests invited to the ceremony.
The most important "Yes" in your life and rice in your dreadlocks
They gave up on a black tie ceremony to enjoy something more hippie and casual. "Even though we were not entirely successful, we had a lot of fun while searching the wardrobes and trying on the clothes we found. By the way, our parents enjoyed it as much as we did the rain of coins and rice poured down on our heads. "Our friends came to Kostrzyn for several days, our parents came on the Saturday morning and, initially, they were in for a shock, but they finally took a liking to the atmosphere and the people and enjoyed the event. I remember my mother's joy when she struck a high five with a complete stranger," says Marek. "A lot of people came to the Registrar's Office. I have no idea how many, to be honest. The room was teeming with people. This was one of the best wedding presents I could get. When we finally said "Yes" and left the office,
the rain of coins and rice poured down on our heads. Small change fell from our dreadlocks the whole evening," says Marek laughingly. The wedding reception was held at the camp-site, among the tents. The mothers took care of the catering, and the festival provided the best music in the world. "Our first dance? We danced to Jelonek. I don't remember the song, but I'm positive about the band. The reception was held at the camp-site. A lot of people came to celebrate with us, we met some of them only a few years earlier, but you know how easy it is to make friends at the festival," he adds.
After the civil marriage, it is now high time for a church wedding, and it is going to be held this Saturday. "We will take our wedding vows again," adds Marek laughingly. "This time we will be wearing a suit and a white dress. The reception will be perfectly formal. But we are going to spend our wedding after-party playing board games and reminiscing the last few days.
