‘There are many myths circulating about amstaffs, pit bulls and terriers. They are considered to be very dangerous and aggressive. However, this is not true. These dogs belong to the group of companion dogs and they have no inborn aggression towards people – they can only learn it,’ says Paulina Grudzień, the founder of the group. ‘These dogs have served people for ages. They fulfil perfectly the role of a companion dog or a family dog,’ she adds.
The NapomocAst group consists of five lovers of dogs, who act under the custody of the Wroclaw Association for the Care of Animals. Currently they take care of several dogs in temporary homes, which they adapt to normal life and for which they seek responsible homes. If a dog was treated badly, it can really be dangerous. This principle applies to all breeds, not only pit bulls and amstaffs. Every dog that is in irresponsible hands, is beaten, starved or taught aggression in dangerous. If such an animal is put in a shelter, there is little chance that anyone will adopt it. Members of NapomocAst try to bring up such a dog again and calm it, and only then do they look for a new home for it.
‘We try to save dogs that are often in a hopeless situation,’ says Paulina Grudzień. ‘We help them turn the corner and find a good place for them,’ she adds. Currently the group is trying to acquire the status of a foundation, as this would make it easier for them to raise funds for the saving, care and upbringing of dogs. You will have an opportunity to meet these dog freaks during the Eco-Picnic in Grabiszyński Park on the 24th of May. Further information about the group is available here.
