  3. The General Consulate of Ukraine in Wroclaw due to be opened this year

The General Consulate of Ukraine in Wroclaw will be the first Ukrainian diplomatic post in Poland and another post of such high rank in Wroclaw. The consulate is another bridge between Poland and Ukraine.

The ceremony of entering into a consulate creation agreement was the culmination of a few years of Wroclaw’s efforts to create a Ukrainian diplomatic post. The decision in this matter was signed by the President of Ukraine last year.

‘It is an important moment not only for Wroclaw, but primarily for Polish–Ukrainian relations. Over 100,000 citizens of Ukraine live in our city today. They enrich the social life of Wroclaw – a European city open to everyone. And today's ceremony of signing an agreement that will make it possible to establish the General Consulate of Ukraine this year marks the beginning of another chapter in our relations. I am sure that our co-operation will bring many good and beautiful moments,’ said Jacek Sutryk, Mayor of Wroclaw.

‘I believe that the consulate will be another bridge between our friendly nations. A bridge that will contribute to the development of co-operation in trade, culture, education and science and the strengthening of interpersonal relations between Poland and Ukraine,’ stressed Andrii Deshchytsia, Ambassador of Ukraine in Poland.

Opening of the General Consulate of Ukraine in Wroclaw

The General Consulate of Ukraine in Wroclaw will be opened in December. The personnel of the consulate will have at their disposal premises with the total area of almost 400 sq.m., which are currently under repair and reconstruction. The building at Plac Nankiera has three zones containing a conference room that can serve as a polling station, a space for providing service to citizens of Ukraine in consular matters, offices for employees or an archive.

‘We, the Ukrainian community in Wroclaw, express thanks to Mayor Jacek Sutryk, who continues previous good practices and turns Wroclaw into one of the most pro-Ukrainian cities in Poland,’ said Igor Salamon, President of the Wroclaw Division of the Association of Ukrainians in Poland.

The first stage of repair works will end at the beginning of December, allowing the consulate to start functioning before the end of the year. The lease agreement for the premises of the Consulate will be valid for three years.

Wroclaw supports Ukrainians

Wroclaw has supported the Ukrainian minority for years. In 2019, Mayor Jacek Sutryk appointed Olga Chrebor as his plenipotentiary for residents of Ukrainian descent. The city has also opened three WroMigrant information and activity points for migrants and reception classes for foreign children, including children of Ukrainian descent. They function in eleven schools.

www.wroclaw.pl is one of the first Polish websites translated fully into Ukrainian. Many of the city’s initiatives and projects encourage the Ukrainian community more and more strongly to engage in the city’s life, including the Wroclaw Citizens Budget, which is available also in Ukrainian.
