  3. Settle your PIT in Wroclaw

Wroclaw’s income from PIT totalled almost 1.68 billion PLN last year. This year, as a result of tax changes introduced in the Polish Deal solution, the amount will be lower, totalling 1.47 billion PLN.

‘Settling PIT in Wroclaw, in the place of residence, is a form of local patriotism. We use this money for the current maintenance of the city, including public transport, road construction and repairs, cleaning of the city, or the running of schools or kindergartens,’ says Jacek Sutryk, Mayor of Wroclaw.

Money from PIT accounts for 27% of Wroclaw’s total income. Marcin Urban, Treasurer of Wroclaw, adds that the introduction of new unfavourable provisions of the Polish Order will also change the way of calculating PIT income for local governments:

‘Only towards the last year will PIT income be lower by around 0.25 million PLN. We hope that the income related to newly registered taxpayers in Wroclaw will partly compensate for the losses caused by the Polish Deal. By settling our PIT in Wroclaw, we support the development of the city,’ says Marcin Urban.

The city prepared a promotional campaign encouraging inhabitants to settle their PIT in Wroclaw. Popular faces look from billboards and city displays, including Alicja Tchórz – a European swimming champion, Professor Alicja Chybicka, vocalist Anna Maria Mbayo, Professor Marcin Drąg and Piotr Celeban – a legend of the Śląsk Wroclaw football club. The materials include also the logo ‘Wroclaw Unites with Ukraine’. It reminds us that Wroclaw’s help to refugees from Ukraine is also financed from the city budget.

More and more taxpayers in Wroclaw

According to the data of the Chamber of Tax Administration, there were around 530,000 active PIT taxpayers in Wroclaw last year. During the last five years, 130,000 persons started settling their tax in Wroclaw tax offices. For comparison, Wroclaw has around 641,000 inhabitants (Central Statistical Office’s data from June 2021). However, the data of the Municipal Water and Sewerage Company indicate that even up to 825,000 persons may live in Wroclaw; therefore, the city encourages inhabitants to settle their tax in Wroclaw.

Our Wroclaw: nine free attractions

After confirming the settlement of your tax in the capital of Lower Silesia, you will be entitled to a package of discounts and nine free visits to Wroclaw attractions: Aquapark, ZOO Wrocław, Hydropolis, Visitor Center of the Centennial Hall, Orbita Swimming Pool, Zajezdnia Shopping Centre, Tarczyński Arena Wrocław and to matches of Panthers Wrocław and the football team of Śląsk Wrocław. Users of the Our Wroclaw program can also add a virtual library card to their account. Our Wroclaw is also a key criterion in recruitment for primary schools. Having an active taxpayer status is tantamount to receiving 50 points in such recruitment. Almost 200,000 users have set up an account in the city’s program.

How to file a tax return?

As in previous years, the simplest way of filing the return is to use the Twój e-PIT (Your e-PIT) service. The data in the portal are prepared automatically, on the basis of PIT-11 returns filled by employers. We can also change our address of residence and choose the Wroclaw tax office online. Apart from that, it is possible to file the paper tax return directly in the tax office or to send the return by post.
