"I was well aware of the fact that choosing a photograph of Wroclaw may be a little risky. The majority of the photographs that entered the competition represented huge, glassy skyscrapers from the world's largest cities. I sent a picturesque panorama of Wroclaw's Rynek instead. It turned out for the good because the jury awarded the work.
Risky choice
The jury of the competition includes representatives of "The Wall Street Journal", "Feature Shoot Magazine" or "Digital Camera Magazine". The jury have selected three Lulko's photographs: Grundtvig's Church's interior in Copenhagen, 21st Century Museum in Rome and Wroclaw' Old Town panorama as seen from the Witches' Bridge at the top of Saint Mary Magdalene's Basilica. "The jury took a particular liking to the Old Town illuminated by the setting sun," adds Lulko. The composition of the photograph is also interesting. The Rynek panorama is framed by the walls of the twin towers of Saint Mary Magdalene's Church. "I've done this on purpose, I wanted to show that these historic walls is what makes Wroclaw unique and beautiful," recounts the photographer.
Self-taught photographer
Maciej Lulko have graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Wroclaw. He has always been passionate about photography, but he has never completed any school or a course for photographers. "I've learnt photography by watching my masters," admits the photographer. "It turns out that I'm quite good at it. Now I can openly say that I'm one of the few lucky people who make money by following their dreams."
