The organizer is waiting until mid-August for a project of an innovative application programme or product, which would make city life more interesting and/or comfortable. After succeeding in the first stage of eliminations, the participant will have two months to deliver the result of his/her project. The laureates of the competition will present their idea at a national IT conference, featuring the world's programming superstars - Scott Mayers and Venkat Subramanian. Apart from the cash prize, Nokia guarantees the finalists access to their technologies and assistance in commercialization of their application.
What can the SmartCity be?
Just look around your neighbourhood and find an are which needs improvement or perfecting. The competition's theme is "intelligent city"; a good example is, e.g. an app, which assists drivers in finding a parking spot.
"We're counting on applications from all creative programmers, who want to modernize the surrounding space and make life in the city more friendly and exciting. Surely there are many areas which can inspire to create an innovative solution for the needs of the society" said Konrad Fuławka, one of the organizers of the competition from the Wrocław branch of Nokia.
Worth mentioning is the fact that there are no limits with regard to the programming language, platform, or the number of people working in the project. The application doesn't need to be mobile, though it is an asset. In fact, the competition entry doesn't need to be a computer programme at all. Submitted can be also devices, machines or creative solutions. There are two conditions, however: the product needs to be innovative, and its main task needs to be making life easier for the residents of cities. All that counts is the idea and effect.
